Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In Japan, 52.0% percent of collision accidents occur at unsignalized intersections. Therefore developing active safty technologies to avoid collisions at unsignalized intersections is essential. In this paper, we propose a method for measuring drivers' visual search behavior and pedal operation patterns using wireless 3D-gyro sensors. Whereas most of the existing works use expensive and heavy eye-tracker and a specially equipped test vehicle, our method uses inexpensive wireless 3D-gyro sensors attached to a driver for directly measuring his/her behaviors in a vehicle. Through experiments performed in real traffic environments, we have confirmed that our method could estimate drivers' visual search behavior/pedal operation patterns with precision over 90%.
