Abstract(in English)	Important problems were discussed for character recognition research in the beginning of 1990's. I would like to introduce the problem and my critical mind in character recognition research of those days. A characteristic of the research activities of character recognition of 90's is to have put foreign countries positively, and I try to place the historic significance of research activities of 90's. An information and communication network infrastructure has been built for these ten years, and character recognition research has been greatly expanded. The significance of technical evolution can be placed with "the release from image capture environment limitation". I tried to survey the future of this character recognition technology which continues envolving..
