A Measurement of Current Noise of Short-Time Arc with External DC Magnetic Field

Abstract(in English) Since an arc discharge generated by breaking electrical contact is considered as a main source of an undesired electromagnetic (EM) noise, EMC, as well as lifetime and reliability, are important parameters for evaluation of the electrical contact. In order to clarify an effect of DC external magnetic field on current noise of short-time arc, current noise from slowly breaking silver contact with external DC magnetic field is measured and discussed in this paper. Arc duration and short-arc sustainable voltage (SASV) became shorter about one-tenth and smaller about 1V with B=30mT case than that of without external magnetic field case. As duration is longer, current noise in the first short-time arc increases.
