Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Popularization of mobile multimedia communications is surely the trend of the mobile services. Authors have been studying a unified micro-cellular network named MM-MAN (Mobile Multimedia Metropolitan Area Network) to allow high-bit rate packet services even to the fast terminals. This system adopts polling-based packet transfer scheme, however, contention-based access to the network is a must, for example, for the registration to the network. This paper proposed a contention method where the base station emits contention invitation (CI) packet to mobile terminals, and terminals respond a contention packet. This is like polling to the unidentified terminals. This paper also proposed power control of the CI packet to select responders in the limited ring area of the cell to reduce frequency of collision. The conventional contention with back-off algorithm takes 345μs for the contention with no collision, and 1005μs for one collision. On the other hand, the CI method takes 77μs and 114μs for each.
