Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Network tomography enables network operators to locate the link degrading the service quality by inferring internal states of the Internet from the measurement results of end-nodes (e.g., client PCs). However, the existing tomography-based system concentrates a large amount of data and its processing workload on a centralized management server, so that it takes a long time to locate the link failure in a large-scale network composing a large number of end-nodes. In this paper, we propose a novel system which markedly shortens the time required for locating the link failure by aggressively distributing the load of the management server among the end-nodes by utilizing the self-configuring properties of a P2P network. The end-nodes are autonomously divided into several groups and the measurement results in each group are processed by the group members in a distributed manner. The proposed system is shown through performance evaluations to solve the scalability issue bothering the existing centralized system.
