Implementation of Nonlinear Digital Aesthetic Filter for Face Images Using DSP

Abstract(in English) Recently, the opportunity to show our faces on video monitor displays is increasing, in accordance with the development of multimedia technologies in data communication. Besides, in the area of photography and printing, 'aesthetic processing' for face images, which makes the skin of the face images look smooth and beautified, is becoming popular and realized in various products such as cameras and printers. From these points of view, aesthetic face image processing is expected to be realized for video as well. Authors proposed before a nonlinear smoothing filter named as an ε-filter and showed that this filter is effective for removing wrinkles and spots from skin in face still images and makes the face look beautified. Moreover, an extended style of the ε-filter, named as a component separating filter, is proposed to make the skin look natural as well as smoothed. In this paper, these ε-filter systems are shown to be effective for real-time aesthetic processing of face images in video from the implementation with DSP. Especially, a method to make the skin look more natural by preserving the natural roughness of skin is proposed. The effectiveness of the aesthetic DSP system is verified for actual face images.
