Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a probe-based autonomous distributed admission control to prevent new sessions from degrading the quality of service (QoS) of ongoing real-time communication sessions with little support from routers. The basic idea for the admission control is that a host must send several probe packets to the receiver before sending actual data and the receiver must send back the probe packets. The session is established if all the probe packets are received at the ingress router. A host sends the same number of probe packets regardless of the peak rate of a new session. Much smaller number of probe packets is required than many other probe-based admission controls. The probe packets never disturb ongoing sessions because the queue for the probe packets is served at lower priority than that for the data packets. The network operator does not have to trust hosts for the probing because the number of probe packets is the same regardsless of the peak rate. The network under this admission control keep the high throughput even in a state of congestion.
