Abstract(in English) | It is well known that human electrostatic discharges (ESDs) cause serious malfunctions in high-tech information devices. For the purpose of clarifying the generation mechanism of human ESD events, we previously measured discharge currents due to collision of a hand-held metal piece through a 50-Ω SMA connector with a 6-GHz digital oscilloscope, and then proposed an equivalent circuit model to calculate the discharge current. This allowed us to derive a discharge voltage across the spark gap, which can not basically be measured, and demonstrated the presence of arc discharges following the spark. We also found that at charge voltages bellow 600V the estimated breakdown field from the discharge voltage is almost kept constant (2×10^7[V/m]) regardless of the different approach speeds of the metal piece. Furthermore, with a 12-GHz wide-band digital oscilloscope, we measured the discharge current at a charge voltage of 2000V, and estimated the breakdown field, which was found to follow the Paschen's law. In this study, using a commercially available IEC calibration target having an input impedance of almost 1Ω, we obtained breakdown fields from the measured discharge currents at different charge voltages from 200V to 8000V. As a result, we could confirm that at charge voltages below 400V, the breakdown fields show an almost constant value of 2-3×10^7V/m, which were the same as those previously obtained. It was also found that the breakdown fields at 600V to 1000V decrease with charge voltages, approximately following the Pachen's law, while at 2000V to 8000V they are smaller compared to those obtained from the Pachen's law. |
