Realization of a Bistable LC Alignment State Using a Photo-alignment Method

Abstract(in English) In this study, we present a new method for realizing a bistable LC alignment state by exposing polarized UV light (Photo-alignment Method) to a vertical alignment film. By treating two types of vertical alignment films having different polar anchoring capability under various conditions, we realize well-defined bistable domain textures, in which LC alignment conditions depend strongly on treating conditions of vertical alignment films. We propose a qualitative formation mechanism of the bistable state, and the mechanism is proved to be consistent with the experimental results.
