Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We study the linear and nonlinear characteristics of 2D square photonic crystal (PC) microrings with air holes using the plane-wave expansion method (PWEM) and the FDTD method. We assume that these microrings are made of Ag-As-Se which has a high third-order nonlinearity. Since the PC ring waveguide is usually operated under multimode conditions, we obtain interesting unique properties such as counter rotation of intracavity fields, transmission to all ports, and unstable oscillations in the nonlinear domain. We can improve the resonance characteristics by partly introducing single-mode waveguides into microrings and can obtain stable optical bistability.
