Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A survey was conducted on the use of the Internet among people with visual impairments. Among 413 effective respondents, 386 people were using the Internet. More than 80% of respondents in their twenties to sixties were using the Internet more than four or five days in a week. Respondents who were print disabled were using the Internet more often than people who were print enabled. Home Page Reader was the most used assistive software with speech output and PC-Talker was the second. Among those software users, 40.1% were using more than two softwares. Many respondents answered that they use the Internet for collecting the information and e-mail. Especially, among thirties the Internet was often used for online shopping and putting out the information. Problems such as lack of alternative text for images, inability to access dynamic content, and inability to navigate Web pages with complex structure were pointed out.
