Laser cooling and trapping of Ba^+ produced by photoionization in a linear RF trap

Abstract(in English) We trapped Ba^+ ions produced by two-step photoionization in a linear RF trap. We decreased the number of trapped Ba^+ ions and laser cooled them to the temperature estimated as 6 K. Odd barium isotopes are important to realize quantum computers and optical frequency standards. Two-step photoionization enables us to load these isotopes selectively. To ionize odd barium isotopes selectively, we carried out high resolution spectroscopy for the ^1S_0-^1P_1 transition used as the first-step transition of photoionization.
