Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The dependency of the normalized radar cross section (NRCS) in the parallel polarizations and the polarization ratio on the relative wind direction was analyzed using the ocean surface observations with three illumination directions by an airborne dual-frequency SAR in the L- and X-band. In X-band, the NRCSs in the parallel polarizations show the different dependency on wind direction in terms of the NRCS ratio between up- and down-wind conditions. In the L-band, the dependency of the NRCS on the wind direction does not differ so much. The polarization ratio in the X-band also shows the stronger dependency on the wind direction than that in the L-band. These results suggest the possibility of ocean winds measurement using the polarimetric SAR in X-band.
