Abstract(in English) In recent years, Wireless LAN devices began to be mounted in a small personal terminal etc. in addition to mobile terminals, such as a notebook PC. Since they are required prolonged operation, power saving is an important factor for a small personal terminal. PSM (Power save management) function is prepared for power consumption reduction in IEEE802.11 standard. This PSM holds down consumption of a battery by suspending a transceiver device (Doze). Then, PSM make the terminal receive packets addressed to only myself by activating a transceiver device periodically (Awake). However, since Multicasting and Broadcasting are invariably received by all terminals in PSM of IEEE802.11 standard, the terminals consume unnecessary electric power even if terminal does not use these services, such as multicasting. This paper describes this problem on which multicasting influences battery consumption of a terminal. Furthermore, this paper proposes the scheme for reducing power consumption and the results of experiment confirmed its excellent performance.
