Abstract(in English) The conventional field installable connector employs refractive index matching material to reduce the Fresnel reflection induced by an air gap or a polished fiber endface to obtain a physical contact (PC) connection. We propose a new type of field installable connector designed to realize a PC connection without refractive index matching material or a polished fiber endface. We describe the connector structure and fiber endface shape that we designed to realize a PC connection without the need to polish the fiber endface and report on the optical performance of the prototype connector.
