| Abstract(in English) | In the next year we have 30-year anniversary of the world-wide first launch of a commercial cellular phone system employing 800 MHz-band in Japan. The first system was a mobile telephone system employing analog FM. As the number of users increased, capacity and service/functional enhancement have been added to the system, as well as shaping of user terminal size and weight. A TDMA digital transmission was developed in the second generation system, which enabled the handheld phone service available for every people. The third generation (3G) systems have provided multimedia services and broadband packet transmission. Research and development for enhancing the 3G systems into 3.9G, and 4G are being aggressively conducted. The Radio Communications Systems (RCS) technical committee was founded in 1989, and 20 years have passed since then. These years actually overlap the period of the second, third and further generation systems development. At the commemoration of the 20-year anniversary of the RCS, progress in mobile communications including technologies and requirements changes will be looked back over, as well as giving some views on system integration. |
