A study on ranging process in IEEE 802.16 relay network

Abstract(in English) As the introduction of relay network in IEEE 802.16 system, modifications of the conventional system configuration are necessary. Although the standardization work of IEEE 802.16 relay system is ongoing by IEEE 802.16 relay task group, there still exist a few problems to be solved and optimized. Among them, this article issues a problem of ranging process in the existing draft standard and provides the solution. This article includes following contributions: First, thorough study of IEEE 802.16 relay system and ranging process is provided. Second, a problem of the existing ranging algorithm is stated considering ranging transmit power control algorithm and the effect of the interference between MS-BS ranging (i.e. ranging between mobile station and base station) and MS-RS ranging (i.e. ranging between mobile station and relay station). Third, the solution of the issued problem is provided. Forth, the performance of both existing and proposed ranging algorithm is analyzed and evaluated. Achievement of this article will be beneficial as the guideline for the design of IEEE 802.16 relay system.
