Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Though most consumers are exposed to heavy risks in the Internet, they are not ready for taking enough security measures. This is considered to be caused by some cognitive bias related to their risk judgments. One of the important roles of the experts is to remove such a cognitive bias and to help them make a proper judgment. In this paper I compared the two security consciousness ordinary people have ; security consciousness of the Internet, and that of their physical properties. They are fully conscious of the physical security because this has a direct influence on their lives and properties. On the other hand, as to the information security, they hardly recognize dangers as their own though reports about weakness in the computer security are often delivered and available to every consumer. In order to raise consumers' consciousness of the information security, it seems worth while for the experts to give such information that helps consumers aware fully of the strong ties between their virtual and real lives.
