Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Through a dramatic communication such as an improvised drama, it is considered that existence and function of audiences are playing important roles in order to continue the on-going creative story. In order to achieve the dramatic communication between remote locations, it was an objective of this study to design and develop a theatre-type co-existing space in which drama players (actors) can be positioned with accompanying by empathetic audiences. To this purpose, WSCS(Waseda Shadow Communication System) was applied which was previously developed by authors to create a co-existing feeling, which can be shared with remote people through exchanging body shadows. The communication space in WSCS was divided into two components with a transparent screen and a shoji (Japanese paper) screen; to each screen shadows of drama players and audiences were separately projected. Relative relationship of each positions was corresponded and expressed, so that the theatre-type communication system was established which was composed of audiences, drama players, and their mutual stage. Shadow expression method was furthermore investigated for audiences to freely enter and exit the theatre.
