Abstract(in English) Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) system should supply exercises adequate for learners, and the system need to have information on proficiency of the learner and difficulty of the exercise for satisfying this requirement. However, it is difficult to measure ability to express language, because an idea can adequately be represented in various expressions and each grader may estimate them in his own way. This paper discusses objective measure of proficiency of English for Japanese for measuring ability to express language, based on automatic evaluation of Machine Translation.
