Optical Bistability of Quasi-waveguide Consisted with π-Conjugated Polymer Film

Abstract(in English) π conjugated polymers have been attracted in many attentions as the material of optical devices such as optical switching, memory and logic element because they have large 3^ non-linear optical susceptibility. In this work, we have prepared quasi-waveguide using the composite film consisted with poly (3-hexylthiophene) of polythiophene derivative and polymethylmethacrylate. With the poly (3-hexylthiophene)/ polymethylmethacrylate composite film, we have measured and performed the optical bistable characteristics. The optical bistable characteristics were clearly appeared with low input laser power intensity. This indicates that all-optical switching device is the stage of practical use..
