Performance of Organic Field Effect Transistors with Fluorinated Copper Phthalocyanine as Active Layer and Polymer Dielectric Layer as Gate Insulating Layer

Abstract(in English) N-type organic field effect transistors (N type-OFETs) are prepared with a fluorinated copper phthalocyanine (F_<16>CuPc) thin film as an organic semiconductor and a polycarbonate thin film as gate insulating material and their performance, including carrier mobility, on/off ratio, and threshold voltage, are evaluated from the output characteristics of OFETs. The field effect mobility is 5.7×10^<-3> cm^2/ Vs, the on/off ratio is 10^4 and the threshold voltage is 5V under atmospheric condition. Electron mobility is found to be strongly dependent on the surface temperature of the polycarbonate thin film depositing F_<16>CuPc molecule. X-ray diffraction results show that the crystallinity and orientation or alignment of the F_<16>CuPc thin film evaporated on a polycarbonate thin film are enhanced with the increase of surface temperature of the polycarbonate thin film. The field effect mobility evaluated by the output characteristics of F_<16>CuPc-OFET is closely related to the crystallinity and orientation or alignment of the F_<16>CuPc thin film.
