Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The orthopedically-impaired people need care takers or assistive devices to support their ADL (Activities of Daily Living). The user interface for such devices needs to be simple as possible. Therefore, we designed a system that can automatically recognize several mouth shapes using image recognition techniques by referring to earlier studies. Mouth pattern images are saved in advance as templates. The system calculates the degree of similarity by comparing intensity distribution of each template and that of the image obtained from camera in order to recognize the mouth pattern without analyzing intensity distribution. Using this system, the experiment has been carried out with our orthopedically-impaired collaborator who hasbeen giving us various comments and requests.
