Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | This paper provides the result of semantic analysis on Japanese adnominal pre-modification and proposes the solution for aporia in machine translation from the adnominal clause to English. The analysis classifies the relations between the adnominal clause and the predicate of the matrix clause and defines semantic categories: time, succession, causality, reason, situation, and concession. Provided that the adnominal can be transformed into the adverbial, the machine translation will be able to adopt subordinate conjunction or participial construction in English, according to the semantic classification. |
