Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A new high-speed optical polarization modulator using the polarization-reversal technique in ferroelectric optical crystals is proposed. Utilizing a double periodic poling structure in a ferroelectric crystal substrate and traveling-wave modulation electrodes, both quasi-phase matching between TE and TM modes and quasi-velocity matching between optical and modulation waves are obtainable for high-speed optical polarization modulation at operational frequencies over 10GHz. In this report, the analysis, design, fabrication and experimental demonstration of the LiTaO_3-based polarization modulator around the operational frequency of 15GHz are presented.
