Abstract(in English) | Authors investigate sensor networks system to detect and notify the early stage information of disaster occurrence in houses or buildings, where sudden change of temperature, occurrence of vibration and other environmental information indicating symptom of disasters is quickly notified to remote users. For this purpose, we present a novel dynamic packet sending rate control and priority queuing scheme of sensor nodes. Firstly, in this scheme, each sensor node adjusts data sensing period and data packet transmission period to gateway nodes depending on how the sensed data is important for disaster notification to users. Secondly, each sensor data packet is given two levels of priorities according to its urgency and importance. When low priority packets are either received from the other nodes for relaying or generated by itself, they are delayed in the low priority packet queue to a certain time, and then their payload is aggregated and relayed to the next node to improve transmission efficiency. On the other hand, when high priority packets are received or generated, they are sent to the next node nearer to the gateway as soon as possible by preempting low priority packets that are delayed in the low priority packet queue. As a result of experimental evaluation using Crossbow MICAz sensor nodes, it is shown that the proposed scheme reduces end-to-end transmission delay of high priority packets by about 50% compared with existing scheme where sensor nodes are not equipped with priority queues. |
