Communication System based on Oral Shape Recognition

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a communication system based on real time oral shape recognition for the person who has a communication problem with words. As the oral shape recognition, we apply two shape features, the area of intraoral region and its aspect ratio, these were well recognition result for lip reading. Furthermore, we proposed a new interface that feeds back to oral shape and recognition result in visible for user. We implemented practical system by increasing vocal items in comparison with traditional system. The evaluation experiment with ten subjects was carried out. As the result, average selection time was 4.7sec, average back operation time by selecting wrong item was 3.2sec, and average time to synthesis vocal item for bottom layer was 28.9sec. The utility of our system was confirmed through the evaluation experiment.
