Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The elderly, whose walking function declined, use a four-castered walker. They sometimes cannot put on its brakes at the appropriate time, because of their lower speed of reaction. As a result, he/she will be fall down. Our system aims to improve the safety of walker, through detecting his/her unstable motions and controlling its brakes. We have designed the detection algorithm by using two parameters: speed of walker and distance between walker and its user. It is implemented within "Unstable Motion Detect System." This system can recognize necessity of brakes 600 milliseconds on average before subjects manually put on brakes. This recognition ratio is correctly achieved over 70 percent.
