A study on Performance Improvement in Data Transmission using Network Coding in Wireless Mesh Networks

Abstract(in English) In recent years, there has been much research on using Network Coding, a new data transmission paradigm, to improve wireless network throughput. In addition to broadcast nature of wireless medium, nodes in Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are almost static and have unlimited power. Network Coding has been shown to essentially improve network throughput in WMNs. However, conventional methods have to rely on an assumption that nodes already knew buffer information of each other, or on broadcast of control packets to exchange information prior to coding. In this paper, we propose a method of using loop information to determine when and how to implement Network Coding at intermediate nodes. A reliable method of broadcasint coding packet is also discussed in detail. Finally, we use computer simulations to evaluate this method.
