Accurate sound source localization using multiple small microphone arrays and ultrasonic distance measurement

Abstract(in English) Automatic camera steering systems by using microphone array are used in video conferencing systems. However, detecting the distance to the talker is difficult in conventional methods of estimating talker locations when the microphone array is small. For this reason, the conventional systems could not control the zoom of camera accurately. In this report, we proposed a method of estimating microphone and talker locations by using the small microphne array settled on the camera unit and the mobile microphne array. The proposed method measures the distance between loudspeakers settled on the camera unit and microphones by using ultrasonic. The proposed method accurately estimates the locations by using the measured distances and time diffences of arraival between microphones. The experimental results with real-time estimation system demonstrated that the accuracy of estimating locations in the proposed method is much higher than that in the conventional method.
