Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this study, to analyze the underlying mechanism of rod photoresponses, we developed a mathematical model of the rod network based on anatomical and neurophysiological findings. We modeled single rod photoreceptor with five ionic currents (I_, I_, I_, I K_<(Ca)>, I_), intracellular calcium system and phototransduction mechanism. Each rod compartment was connected by gap conductance according to the finding on rod electrical coupling (Zhang and Wu, 2004). In simulation, the responses of the model produced by small and large spots were in good agreement with the experimental results. The time course of the photoresponse produced in the rod model depended upon the area of illumination. Our results suggest that the ionic mechanisms of single rod itself can account for these photoresponses.
