A Lossless Image Authentication Scheme for Tamper-Proofing

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes an image authentication scheme that does not have any influence on images at all. Conventional semi-fragile watermarking using discrete wavelet transform embeds watermarks to DWT image coefficients. Instead, the proposed scheme generates the relation between DWT coefficients and author information and stores the relation as the key. In authentication process, instead of extracting watermarks from the DWT coefficient of image, the scheme detects the author information from the stored key, and restores the information as well as discovers tampers. The experiment revealed that the author information is more robust and more correctly restored against non-malicious distortions such as JPEG compression, soft focus, shrinking and enlargement than the conventional semi-fragile watermarking scheme. It was also found that tampers can be correctly discovered against such distortions. The increase of memory cost for storing the key was about 10% compared with the conventional method.
