Analysis of VHF Aeronautical Mobile Communications Traffic in Japan

Abstract(in English) We have analyzed the logs of VHF radio telephony and ACARS to investigate features of aeronautical mobile communications traffic. Some characteristics such as fluctuation of the traffic and distribution of transmission length are obtained. The distributions of transmission length and interval have similar shape to power law distribution and the property of self-similarity. The features shown in this article are useful for traffic simulation, evaluation of load sharing and improvement of site allocation.
