Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | We developed a Japanese-into-Braille Translating Server "eBraille 1.49" which incorporates Braille translating engine KUIC (Kobe Univ. Intelligent eBraille Engine for ChaSen) based on our previous system "eBraille 0.81" in 1997 to be improved for practical use. We prepared Japanese texts and the corresponding Braille texts (426 sentences of 12 articles of braille news paper "Tenji Mainichi", 2002, June) for evaluation of eBraille translation and compared Braille translation accuracy with other Braille translating programs : Oten-chan (http : //www 17. plala. or. jp/otenchan/), IBUKI-TEN, ibukiTenC (http : //www. ikd. info. gifu-u. ac. jp/), and another Japanese-into-Braille translating server (http : //www. muzik. gr. jp/tenji/default. asp). As a result, eBraille 1.49 established a little higher accuracy for newspaper articles than the other programs. However, the translation accuracy of eBraille for the data set of medical text which include Japan intractable disease names was about 80% of that for newspaper articles, which is lower than Oten-chan and IBUKI-TEN. The fact that their dictionaries include words with Braille segmentation suggest that adding unknown words, especially medical words to the dictionary in our program will contribute to higher accuracy. Our future task is to expand the dictionary by adding words and to explore the possibility of incorporating Braille segmentation analyzer, especially for compound nouns. |
