Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We investigated personal computer usage by physically-challenged individuals and intractable disease patients, and analyzed the results. Specifically, we wanted to identify details about their personal computer use, including what kinds of hurdles they face and how, if possible, these problems can be overcome. Based on our investigation and analysis results, we propose a supportive tool for personal computer usage by these individuals. In this paper, we pay particular attention to situations in which physically-challenged individuals and intractable disease patients utilize electronic mail, or E-mail, comparing our proposed tool with existing support software and clarifying the differences. Our hope is that our proposed tool will be useful, helping them to communicate more effectively and, thus, lead fuller lives in society.
