Size-Reduction of 3-dB Branch-Line Couplers with Stubs

Abstract(in English) An open-ended stub which is attached to a transmission line at the center reduces the length of the transmission line. The length of the transmission line depends on the characteristic impedance of the transmission line, the characteristic impedance of the stub line and the length of the stub line. It means the size of the transmission line networks could be reduced by properly changing parameters mentioned above. In this manuscript, the examples of the size reduction of the 3-dB branch line couplers are shown. In the cases of 2-branchline coupler and 3-branchline coupler, the area are reduced to 50% and 70%, respectively. A design of 2-branchline coupler with stubs which consists of all transmission lines of the same characteristic impedance is also shown.
