Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Multi-neuronal activity was recorded by using multi-electrode in the raphe and the tegmental nuclei. In these nuclei, there are "sleep regulating neurons" that are believed to be involved in regulation of sleep-wake rhythm. Cross-correlation analysis of spike trains suggested that (i) there are the functional connections between the adjacent neurons; (ii) there are the connections not only between sleep-regulating neurons, but between state-unrelated neurons and sleep-regulating neurons. These will provide a novel framework for the understanding of the mechanisms regulating sleep and wakefulness.
