Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Previously, PSNR is widely used as an evaluation method of image quality. PSNR only digitizes differences between two images, so sometimes an acquired quantity does not agree with subjective evaluation. In this paper, we have discussed luminance gradient which is necessary for the evaluation of sharpness of an image in order to develop a new method to evaluate sharpness of an image. For this purpose, we compare the luminance gradients of original images and the ones of blurred images, and we survey the relationship between the parameters and sharpness of an image. We also extract and discuss the parameters of the noised images. As a result, as the blurring amount rises, both average and standard deviation become smaller, and in the case of noised image even both values get larger, average and standard deviation have different tendencies.
