Spectrometry and Imaging of Biological Materials in the Region of Terahertz Waves

Abstract(in English) We used terahertz spectrometers consisting of the widely frequency-tunable THz-wave generated from GaP crystal pumped at 1.2μm region using two Cr: forsterite lasers which were constructed by Drs. Nishizawa and Suto in 1980. In this reports we demonstrated that 1) some amino acids and glucose solids dissolved in aqueous and bovine serum were dispersed and dried on the membrane filters, and then terahertz spectrometry and imaging of the dried samples were performed, resulting in qualitative and quantitative differences of the biological materials applied, and 2) the THz spectrometry and imaging analysis of human tissues and plant seeds with the selected THz frequency were proceeded, indicating significant profiles of the imaging patterns, and 3) THz spectroanalysis of some drug powders was applied, demonstrating the presence of polymorphic crystals. The biological applications of the THz wave characteristic in both fingerprint appearance as a light beam and permeation ability as a radio wave were discussed.
