Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The purpose of this paper is to explain part of a larger study to develop Japanese Graded Readers (JGR). Graded readers are an effective component in an extensive reading program that can support foreign and domestic Japanese language learners with autonomous learning materials. In this paper, we explain the construction of a JGR vocabulary checker to control the vocabulary in reading material. The checker uses a vocabulary list developed from theories of extensive reading. We report on the features and the usefulness of the JGR vocabulary checker at its current stage of development.
