Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, the optical power in optical communication systems has been increasing rapidly through the use of WDM or distributed Raman amplification (DRA) technologies. When DRA technology is applied to WDM systems, a high power light is launched into optical fibers and fiber-optic components. The intensity of that optical power reaches several watts, and such a high power light may induce damage in optical fibers or fiber-optic components. On the other hand, optical fiber cable testing systems are installed to reduce construction and maintenance costs. Since the light with the highest optical power is launched into the systems in a central office, we must know how optical fiber and devices in these systems behave under such high power light input conditions. In this paper, we clarify the requirements for optical fiber cable testing systems for high power light experimentally.
