Laser beam deflection control device using arrayed waveguide for energy-space-transmission

Abstract(in English) We have researched on semiconductor lasers with beam deflection control device for energy-space-transmission. For this purpose, here we report the fundamental research of laser beam deflection by using arrayed waveguide beam-deflection-control device with 1×N Active MMI (multi-mode-interferometer)-LD (laser diode). In this paper, we report the fundamental research of the arrayed waveguide beam-deflection-control device by using Pockels effect for phase-shift of each arrayed waveguide. The factor which limits the maximum deflection angle is the maximum phase change between the adjacent waveguides defined by half-wavelength phase-shift. In addition, the deflection angle depends on the width of the waveguide and the spacing of adjacent waveguides. However, we found that the correlations existed in the width of the waveguide and in the diffraction beam pattern. As a result, it is preferable to optimize the width of the waveguide for obtaining higher light power density toward 0^ order peak in the diffraction pattern.
