Abstract(in English) The rapid development of the photonic network is driving demand for optical transmitters with high-speed modulation and long-distance transmission. We propose novel method of generating intensity modulated signal using frequency modulation of a DBR laser and optical filters. The voltage modulation of the phase control region of SSG-DBR lasers enables high speed frequency modulation beyond the relaxation oscillation frequency with a wide tuning range. Optical filters convert the frequency modulated signal to the intensity modulated signal. The long-distance transmission is possible by optimization of the frequency modulation width, and control of the frequency chirping by optical filters. We achieved 180km transmission of 10-Gb/s NRZ optical signal with a wavelength tuning range of 27nm, and 60km transmission of 20-Gb/s NRZ optical signal.
