Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examined developmental change of responses to whisker deflections in rat primary somatosensory cortex between postnatal day 5 (P5) and 30 using multiple single-unit recording techniques with silicon-multi probes. Although functional connections from neurons in layer 4 to those in layer 2/3 were weak in rats before P18, layer 2/3 neurons responded to stimuli. The magnitude of responses in younger rats was larger than that in older rats. Trial-trial variations of responses magnitudes were correlated among neurons. This correlation was decreased with development. The results suggest that correlated activities among neurons contribute to sensory-experience dependent development of neural circuit.
