Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) provide high data transmission rate and simple installation at low cost. In the near future, WLANs will be a fundamental technology for constructing ubiquitous network. WLANs will overlap to provide continuous coverage over a wide area. In such ubiquitous WLANs, a Mobile Node (MN) moving freely between multiple access points (APs) requires not only permanent access to the Internet, but also continuous communication during handover. In order to satisfy these requirements, an MN needs to (1) select an optimal AP and (2) execute a handover seamlessly. To achieve (2), we have proposed a seamless handover method in our previous work. In this paper, to achieve (1), we propose and implement a proactive AP selection algorithm. In ubiquitous WLANs, an MN has to select an optimal AP among multiple unspecified APs. Then, we propose our AP selection algorithm by exploiting the number of frame retransmissions in addition to RSSI and implement it.
