Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes the applicability of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) as a dispersion-compensating/managing medium for conventional dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF). We show the dispersion compensation property of the PCF in the 1310nm wavelength region. The dispersion compensation effect on the transmission performance is clarified with a bit rate of 40Gbit/s. We also clarified a high-speed and wideband transmission performance of a hybrid transmission line composed of PCF and DSF. Moreover, we numerically investigate the applicability of PCF with a uniform air hole structure as a dispersion-compensating/managing medium for conventional DSF. Our results show that a dispersion-compensating/managing PCF is beneficial for expanding a high-speed transmission bandwidth of the existing DSF effectively.
