Abstract(in English) Many single-mode optical fibre connection techniques such as a mechanical splicer or a field assembly connector have been developed and are currently used in fibre to the home (FTTH) systems. All the connection methods involve handling and aligning bare glass fibres that have been cleaned with alcohol after their coatings have been stripped. Bare fibres are not easy to handle. There is also a danger that the bare fibres may be broken. Therefore, an easier and safer connection technique has been required. This paper proposes a new optical fibre connection method that directly aligns and assembles a coated fibre without the need for a stripping and cleaning process. The developed mechanical splicer can provide easy assembly, excellent optical performance, and high environmental reliability.
