Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) prescribes the immunity test (IEC61000-4-2) of electronic equipment for electrostatic discharges (ESDs), and specifies the detailed waveform of a discharge current injected by an ESD gun onto an IEC recommended calibration target, which is designed to have the same waveform of observed voltages as the injected currents. Due to its frequency characteristics, however, the observed voltage waveform does not correspond to an injected current one. In our previous study, using a commercially available 50Ω tapered coaxial type adapter and a S-parameter technique, we measured the transfer impedance of a calibration target, and thereby the reconstructed discharge currents injected onto the target were confirmed to almost correspond to their observed output voltages for contact and air discharges. In real calibration of the discharge current injected onto a target, however, the 50Ω tapered coaxial type adapter is not connected to the target so that the previous results would not always be correct. In this study, we have newly derived a transfer impedance of the target under the condition that the target load is open, and have reconstructed the current waveform injected onto the target for contact / air discharges of an ESD gun. As a result, we have found that the transfer impedance is almost 1+j0Ω at frequencies below 200MHz, while its absolute values at frequencies over 200MHz to 6GHz gradually increase up to 3.5Ω. This result has shown for contact discharges that the peaks of reconstructed discharge currents are slightly smaller than those of the observed voltage waveforms. Furthermore, it has also shown for air discharges with low charge voltages and fast approach speeds that the reconstructed currents have gently rise time and slightly smaller current peaks compared with those of the observed voltage waveforms.
