Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To measure the complex permittivity of a dielectric bar inserted in the center of a TM_<0m0> mode cylindrical cavity, a conventional perturbation method has been improved in measurement accuracy by a method based on the rigorous analysis, where the effect of sample insertion holes is taken into account. Based on this method, frequency dependences of complex permittivity of rod samples (fused quartz and polyethylene) were measured using the TM_<010> and TM_<020> modes of four cavities designed and manufactured with different sizes. As a result, the measured results of the relative permittivity were improved in uncertainty within 0.3%, compared with 4.5% for conventional cavities used widely in Japan. In addition, the identification of the TM_<030> and TM_<040> modes are enabled by using cavities with lower height and thus this method realizes the measurement of frequency dependence of complex permittivity of a rod sample over five octave bands.
