Abstract(in English) Non-coherent on-off keying (OOK) system is one of the potential candidates for low power and low cost radio especially in the millimeter wave (mmW) bands. In order to realize a multi-gigabit wireless, it was difficult to generate a short pulse signal with a high on-off ratio in low power consumption. An ultra-short pulse modulator by using a gate switched multiplier has been newly proposed. The multiplier is switched by the modulation signal at an FET gate, and generates a 2nd harmonic pulsed signal. The gate switched multiplier inherently suppresses the 2nd harmonic at the off-state. Therefore, a high on-off ratio can be obtained for OOK modulated signal. At 60GHz band, a fabricated OOK pulse modulator achieved more than 44dB on-off ratio in a lower power consumption of 4.7mW.
